Regretfully, we are cancelling the Tulsa May 28 -30th NL Regional/Open Sectional.  Hopefully, we will be back to bridge and our friends in the near future.

    Thanks, Peggy Gaffke, Tournament Coordinator

With the completion of the lease assignment agreement in February, we were finally able to submit our F1023 submission to the IRS.  This is the Application for Recognition of Tax Exemption which includes a significant amount of supporting documentation.   Other bridge clubs have told us that this process takes somewhere between 4 and 6 months for review and approval.   So we are hopeful that we will have 501 c 3 status this summer.

The Route 66 Bridge Club Easybridge! Team (Sandie Bailey, Peggy Gaffke, Carol Gammell, Barbara Gardner, Mary Heinking, and James Tyner) is pleased to announce the start of Easybridge! workshops in further support of our educational mission.  These workshops are in addition to our Saturday sessions but are open to everyone.    Each workshop lasts 2 hours and consists of playing 6 carefully curated hands which illustrate an important topic.  The workshops are designed to build a solid foundation of knowledge for newer players.   Every participant will receive copies of the hands as well as commentary on bidding, play of the hand, and defense for each hand.   While the material builds upon earlier workshops,  the workshops can be taken out of order or only on selected topics.  The cost per workshop is $15 and includes snacks (because without food it wouldn't be Easybridge!).  Registration is limited.   Sign up at the club or by emailing route66bridgeclub@gmail.com.

Tulsa took both first and second place in the 3 city (Tulsa, OKC, and Norman) unit championship held on Friday, 7-Feb-2020.  In fact, 8 Tulsa pairs placed overall (out of the 14 pairs who won masterpoints based on overall placement):

    •  A1:  Ken Sanders and Ned Hager (69.65%)
    • A2:  Barbara Holloway and Kas Rangan (65.18%)
    • A4:  Bob and Rosalie Hanson
    • A7:  Nancy Phillips and Ray Zekauskas
    • B1:  Dianne Dericks and Peggy  Gaffke
    • B5:  Jerold Brinkman and Bob Higgins
    • B6:  Darrell Mayfield and Koko Malley
    • C2:  Barbara Gardner and Mary Heinking

Please note that the boards posted on the Route 66 and Fun & Games websites are the correct ones.  All 3 Oklahoma cities played the same boards.  The boards shown on the Common Game website are not 100% consistent with the boards we actually played.

And, while Phil Wilner had to be taken by ambulance before the game started, we are thrilled to report that he went home from the hospital later that night and is already back at the table.

Our scoring correction policy is posted on the Club Bulletin Board.

Our hope is that all players are carefully entering and approving all scores while the game in underway.  Our Bridge Mates also allow any team to confirm their scores by board at the completion of the game.  We would like to encourage our members to perform these checks before leaving the club.  It is easier for all concerned if corrections can be made in real time.   But we understand that we are all human and that mistakes can be made.

ALL scoring corrections must be reported within 24 hours after the completion of a game.  They must be reported within 2 hours of the completion of any special game (e.g. ACBL wide Junior Fund Game) to make sure we meet all ACBL posting requirements.   All scoring corrections must be in the system before the games can be uploaded and our players' masterpoints submitted to the ACBL at the end of each calendar month.   The Board and your Game Directors are  working hard to make that happen.

Any member who thinks a scoring correction is required must contact the Game Director who directed that specific game OR send an email to our Club email address (route66bridgeclub@gmail.com) within the 24 hour time limit.   The Webmaster will forward your request to the specific Game Director for action.   Please remember that your opponents will have to sign off on all scoring corrections.

Our members voted overwhelmingly to change the start time for our Tuesday (open) game from 10 am to noon.

This time change will begin in March; we hope this will give our players enough notice to rearrange any appointments you might have.

The Board appreciates this change very much.  It is going to allow us to begin to expand our educational program by using this timeslot to offer Easybridge! and other workshops to our players.

The Route 66 Bridge Club is hosting a very special game on Friday, 7-Feb, at 10 am.  This will be the first ever 3 city unit championship game held in Oklahoma.  Players from Tulsa will compete against players from Oklahoma City and Norman to see whose city will reign supreme.  All of us will be playing the same boards.  Tulsa players will earn upgraded points for our section since it is a unit championship game PLUS be eligible to earn extra points from placing overall across the 3 sections (cities).  We expect that the top pairs will earn double digit points.   There will be no other club game in Tulsa this year at which players can earn more black points.

This special game will also serve at the Route 66 Grand Opening Celebration.   A FREE BBQ lunch with sides will be offered.  Players are invited to bring desserts to share.

Pre registration is required.  Please sign up at Route 66 or send an email to route66bridgeclub@gmail.com.

There is no extra cost for this game.
